The World of a Dreamer
Meet Peter Serraino, an Orange County psychic

A human soul can be easily swallowed by the beige suburbia of Orange County -- its scorched land, indiscernible streets, truck houses, and blind brick fences. You have to decide what to do -- to blend in or to set off your individuality against this facelessness; in other words, to try to create your own world, and learn to live in it. Their own world it was that a son and a father built behind one of these blind beige walls in the very heart of Orange County, California. We were let in, the door shut behind us, and we found ourselves in a different world. We were greeted by various gods, goddesses, and other mythic figures everywhere -- they lived on the trees, in bushes, on the poles, around the waterfalls. Some of them looked mysterious, some threatening, but all of them refined the garden, making it a lovely place to stay and rest and let the imagination flow.

The Garden

Peter Serraino, a well-known Orange County psychic believes that he receives paranormal information for his numerous clients -- Orange Country residents -- from his spirit guides. He does his readings mostly here, at his home. Peter shows us around and tells his story. The melodious ringing of chimes keeps reminding about the reason why so many people come here -- trying to get in touch with their inner feelings, hidden wishes and true hopes.

P: I wasn't a bossy kid, rather a loner, and my best friend was the wind. And this is why I have so many chimes in my garden, because I can still call the wind as I did in my childhood. And I have talked with spirits around me since I was a kid. The psychic premonitions visited me and I used to tell people that this-and-this was going to happen and it happened. I think I had a nice childhood, but then came a time of tests and challenges. I lost everything twice. My parents died when I was 21. I ended up living on the streets for five years. I worked minimum wage jobs. I was living in poverty and I ate every other day, and I weighed one hundred and thirty pounds. People were always taking things and stealing from me. In other words, I had to start fresh and become my own self. This is how I see it. … The second time I lost everything was just as I was getting back on my feet. A major car accident hit me, and I had no place to go. And then suddenly I heard a person saying, "Why don't you come to stay with me?" I have been here ever since, and Joe adopted me as a son. Now he is my father and I am his son. And over the years we tried to create a livable environment around here. Peter's garden looks quite fascinating; a waterfall is cooling the air and sculptures here and there seem to have symbolic meaning. Since I am a medium and spiritualist, and I converse with departed souls and spirit guides, you see a lot of images of the dead around here, like skulls on my rings. I wear these rings in spite of some people's mixed feelings about them.

T: Who is that guy -- a cement sculpture -- in the center of your garden? He looks so important.
P: He looks so important and sits on the top of a pole because he takes care of the candles for me. He keeps the sun out and when I water, or when it rains, it keeps water from going down inside where the candles are. Some other sculptures around here also have a practical purpose. For instance, this green frog next to the waterfall takes care of good luck in this family. Some art works have been done for the joy of doing it -- my father carved those doors over there using a motif of Toltec ball players.

Vladimir: Is your father psychic as well?
P: He says that he isn't, but he is. He has been the biggest inspiration of my life. He gave me the encouragement and support necessary to pursue my artistic career and he was the one who encouraged me to do my psychic work.

T: Does your waterfall have also a symbolic meaning?
P: Water is the symbol of life -- the flowing water of life, so to say. There is a reason why there are two waterfalls. They represent man's duality -- light and dark sides, or Ying and Yang. There are always two trends that are coming towards the center. In reality, we see them as negative and positive things, but one cannot exist without the other. We achieve harmony and bliss only when they come into a perfect connection, or a balance. I instinctively know where to plant some plants, or create an arch, or put the crystals that clear and balance energies…

T: I cannot get away from here, and I love this place.
P: Yes, it is where people sit and meditate, while they wait for me. Some of the crystals have been bought and some have been brought by clients as gifts. I collect them, and let them stay here, and then gradually send them into their right place. I also have sculptures that represent the little guys, or the lower life forms. There are higher forms and lower forms of energy. But energy cannot be good or bad, because energy is energy. So as everything is energy, everything is good. Everything that happens in your garden is for your good, or if you have problems with considering it good, think of it as a thing that happened to you for your highest good.

The Space
P: If you happen to be in my spirit classes, you will see that I have my classes in circles; I believe in circles… The class comes together every Wednesday night. If you want, come to a class… So, I believe in circles. What is important about a circle? Once a circle is formed, or a collective comes together, it will exist through all time. In other words, if you come to this one class or several classes, and you have to go around the world, and you need some extra energy, or you want to reconnect with Source or God mentally or spiritually, you can always go back to that circle. It is always there, and people in the circle are supportive of each other. It's called "the gathering" and it supports the goals, and hopes and desires of its members. I feel we are here on this plane not only to expand and to learn, but also to enjoy ourselves and get things that we need and want. And that's what God really wants for us -- to experience everything. And this is how God's world works -- circles within circles within circles within circles… Life is like a rainbow reality, level upon level upon level upon level upon level. So, every situation - no matter how simple it is -- has multiple meanings and multiple dimensions to it. For instance, we have karma on one level and on the other -- predestination; and then comes desire, souls' halves, and it is all level upon level upon level; and it goes deeper into generational kind of things, and into genetic memory, and cellular memory, and into DNA, and it again is level upon level upon level.

The macrocosm is also in circles. Our universe is a big giant spiral and the galaxies are spirals and circles as well. And human minds and souls are circles, they collect themselves in circles, everything is a circle within a circle within a circle. So, the universe is to me nothing more than one big disk. It is flat, and it is revolving and it is expanding all at the same time.

The Time
P: The secret of reality is quite simple. It is to live in the moment. Because the moment is the center, and the center comes where the universe revolves. And once you stay with the moment, you become the center of the universe. And in that center, the past, and present and the future coexist. And that's how one can see the future. The past depends on what we have learned from our experiences… People talk about past lives. But what is important -- we are a total of all our past-life existences, not of just one existence but all of them.

And if you want to go deeper into it, let's play with the idea of reincarnation…. Everyone's assumption is that we all reincarnate from the present into the future. But what if the past, and present and future coexist? I believe that in time all of this will be proven. So what I am going to propose is quite simple. If we incarnate in a system of coexistence, then why cannot we also incarnate into the past? According to my belief system some of the great minds in our history -- great scientists and great artists could be actual people from our future who incarnated into our time, because all our existences are a microcosm of one moment anyway. Does that make sense?

T: If we live in the world of infinite possibilities, then why not -- everything is possible. Some people have difficulties with building a clear linear sequence of their past lives that they have recalled. Both time and space seem to overlap… So far there is no explanation to it.

The Place in the Sun

T: Do you consider yourself a born psychic only, or do you credit psychic development as well?
P: I would say, I am a born psychic but I would also say that I am developing and have been developing since my childhood. And teachers came according to the saying, "When the student is ready, the teacher will appear." I spent a lot of years in seclusion here. As a psychic, I picked up all the garbage around me, and I was lost; I became kind of agoraphobic -- looking watching into space not knowing what to do. It was then that my father encouraged me to join a metaphysical church. There I met the man who had the church. And he got me out of it. It took a lot to do it. One night he said to me, "Why don't you respond to other psychics and mediums at their demonstrations? You act like nothing is going on." And I said, "Why? I do this work all the time." He took off his ring, gave it to me, and said, "Tell me something." So, I held the ring and told him about the day he was adopted, about his dead sister, about the documents that he was looking for, and it went on and on. After I gave him that reading, he encouraged me to do this work in the public. He connected me with the psychic fair circuit. I traveled around, met other psychics, and kept on developing. It brought me to the point where I am today.

Voices from the Other Dimensions

T: Please, tell me about your guides?
P: Your guardian angel will be with you from the day you are born to the day you die. But there are other guides as well. For instance, this house attracts a lot of guides, and a lot of spirit entities are here. Years ago, when we started our psychic meetings here, we all picked up the spirit presence of an Indian shaman with his friends. It encouraged my dad to do some research, and he found out that Indians did live here at one point. And the shaman actually lived pretty much where this house sits. Now I am a caretaker of his place. And he makes his appearances upon the high wires over there. So I have this Indian connection here. But I also have other guides. When I work with different people, different guides come in. People assume that a guide is a highly evolved individual. But that is not true. For instance, if you are going to study art, you attract a guide who has been in the arts. If you study medicine, you attract a medical guide. And guides come and go. Some guides will be with you a long period of time, and some guides move on. This is how it works. I feel that I attract specific kind of guides depending on what I do. If I work in my garden, suddenly I know what fits there, and what works better here. And I do it. And I do it very spontaneously. I may have other plans, but suddenly I do something else. So, I go by their guidance, I allow myself to be guided.

T: Tell me, why are they serving us? What is really going on? Do they enter our energy field, or they are outside of us, where are they?
P: They are outside of us, and often connect by "sending back to us" our own thoughts. But some do audio and talk to you. I get that sometimes.

T: I get that also.
P: But as a rule, at least for me, I get it deep inside of my head. I can scense, I can feel the spirit, I can tell he is standing there because I get shimmers of the energy. But inside my head, I get a very clear picture of who they are. How Spirit Talks…
P. Once I had a lady who wasn't sure if her son was alive or dead. And so I focused on it, and in my head he appeared outside on the patio; that's where they really pop up, outside there somewhere. And I said to my client, "It feels like he's very lean, a very muscular kind of person, overbuilt, athletic; he is not wearing a shirt, or shoes, just a pair of jeans." And she confirmed, "Yes, that's how he was, he always wore jeans, and he did not wear shirt or a shoes. And then I said, "Well, I hate to tell you, but he is passed on, I feel that he was murdered. I am getting Arizona, and I am getting Oregon." And she said that his car was found in Arizona, but he was last seen in Oregon. And then I felt that he was with two women who also were murdered. I also felt that in time the bodies would be found, quite a number of years later. And then, in her heart, she accepted the fact that he was dead. And then came the most fascinating part of that reading. In an instant, he was standing right next to her. And I saw her departed son tapping his lip. I said, "He is tapping his lip and he is standing next to you, right here. Can you tell me, what it means?" She said that he had a big mole right on his lip. The tapping on the lip confirmed the survival of the soul. But it didn't end there. Suddenly, there was a little girl in my head, maybe ten, maybe younger. She had pigtales, and a big split in her teeth, and she was on a pogo stick. I asked, "What's that mean?" I was thought always to say what you get, no matter how silly it seems. And my client answered. "My grand daughter was hit by a car while she was on her pogo stick, and she did have a split in her teeth, a gap." So, her granddaughter and her son were together in the spirit world. This is an example of how spirit communication works. I do psychic readings as well. I sit here and I read for people, and sometimes I get spirit buddies who tell me things. Sometimes I use Tarot cards as doorways to other dimensions. I also have several radio shows that document evidence of survival. One radio announcer said that I had 98 percent accuracy rate. Actually, I don't need cards. Anyone who is really psychic can read anything. I like using cards because they give me a focus point. And a focus point is a form of meditation as well. It sounds like I am rambling, but actually I am not…

Meditation
In other words, some people assume that when you meditate, you sit in the corner, and you go "Om-m-m!" and you maybe float in the air, and you burn candles and incense. Yes, it is a form of meditation. If you have time for that, it's fine. But any kind of focused energy like doing art is a form of mediation. Exercising is a form of meditation. And as I work with people, I have found that a lot of transient people at troubled times can find their answers and solutions while driving some place for a long distance. That long distance drive focuses energy and is also a form of meditation. They tell that they had a chance to think it through. But they also got guidance from God, the universe, the guides, or whatever.

In Search of Meaning

T: Why do our guides have to work so hard with us? Are they trapped in our microcosm? Why are we so privileged to have guides around the clock to watch over us? The same heaven that gives us guides, doesn't care when we die in volcano eruptions, earthquakes, floods, snake bites, or suffer horrible death in wars and revolutions, or from terrible sicknesses and the list goes on and on. What's your take on this contradiction?
P: Let me explain this to you. Through years I have come to the conclusion that we are put here on this plane to learn and to expand, to do our karma and dharma and all that and it is part of the rainbow reality, as we talked about earlier. At the same time, we incarnate into the physical to experience emotions. It could be love, it could be hate, or it could be pain. Pure energy, or pure spirit cannot understand emotions, so we are here to learn emotions. That's one thing. We are also here to enjoy the physical self -- sex, sensuality, food, things of that nature, again -- emotions. And guides are also here guiding us. And people say, oh they come here to save us. Now, in one reality it is true. But the bottom line is, they watch over us to save their own ass, because everything is interconnected… If we screw up our dimension, we mess up their reality. So they are coming here to make sure that we don't mess up their stuff. But they're also here to help us at the same time. So it is not like this benevolent we-are-coming-to-help-kind of thing. Yes they are coming to help us but they are also coming to make sure that we do it right. We are talking here about a big threat that goes around the spiral wall. If we disrupt our planetary system, or we disrupt our dimension, that reverberation will vibrate throughout the entire universe.

T: Probably it is okay to be a guide of yours, or mine, or Vladimir's. None of us is a monster, we don't kill, don't steal, and try to lie as little as possible. But how does it feel to be a guide for a Hitler, or Stalin, or a henchman, or an executioner?
P: All things do have purpose or meaning. As we already talked about, there is a dark side and there is a light side. One cannot exist without the other. People talk about Hitler, but I am sure that back in time there were even more horrendous times, like the Toltecs' time. They were very blood-lusting, thirsty kind of people and it was coming from their Age. They were very much into bloodletting… In The Bhagavad Gita, which is a holy book, it makes a statement, "When a time comes to be a warrior, be a warrior and do it well."

Okay, this is Peter's answer to my question. Were Hitler or Stalin 'good warriors?' According to the holy Bhagavad Gita, none of them qualify as warriors, because none of them participated in open battles. Both come from the bosom of political intrigues where they learned to collect power and make others die for them… I suppose, there may be many answers to the question of what it takes to be an invisible spirit guide of a muss murderer of such a caliber.

Where Are The Souls Coming From?

Peter continued his introduction into his world shielded by a beige brick wall from Orange County's boundless suburbia. Would "the reality" of this scorched land leave this place alone, or would it one day knock on the little gate in this big wall and test the American New Age philosophy professed by Peter, probably some of his clients, and of course me, the interviewer and author of this story? In my former homeland it would -- sooner or late, maybe here it would skip the door of a fortune teller and psychic?Who can tell? Back to my question, "Where are the souls coming from?"

P: We incarnate to be a priest, or a warrior, or a housewife, because there are things that we have to experience. And the difference between a young soul and an old soul is quite simple. An old soul is one who has been around the block many, many times and is evolved. …How a new soul comes about is interesting, because it resembles a biological phenomenon. As a soul matures and grows to a point of expansion, a part of it pops up and starts to grow into a new soul. So to me, the new souls are parts of an old soul that has broken up and started a new "generation" of souls, or a new circle of growth.

T: Like a plant…
P: Exactly, and that new soul will have similarities to the older soul, but its own life path that it has to fulfill. Does it make sense? P: When you get into this work, it becomes quite mind boggling, because there are always different levels… Yes, I do believe in reincarnation, we have had many lives. But right now, there are probably as many people in existence on this planet as have existed through our entire history of the planet. In other words, today we have the biggest number of souls on the earth plane. What does it mean?

T: Maybe it means that the end is near, the next world war is near and we are all here to experience 'the end time' scenario; to try to survive; to help to preserve life on earth, or memory of the human race, or who knows what… I hope to learn that I am wrong and that our peachy existence is the only reason that has caused the overpopulation…
P: And it's not all. I believe that everyone has a double, or a duplicate. Also, there are white and dark, yin and yang to everything -- in the name of balance. Half of the world is asleep. The other half is awake. So maybe when we are asleep, our souls are communicating with living souls someplace else. So everything is interconnected, and we have our dreamtime. I do believe in a dreamtime.

…And Our Dreams

P: We have these regular dreams when we download fears or whatever, in order to clean up and release them. And we can have prophetic dreams when they tell us things of the future. We have dreams where our loved ones come to converse with us. Then we also have what I call real dreams. And the real dream is where we really do something some place else. I can remember at least three of them. Once I was dreaming kind of a serial dream that continued day after day… And I went to a beach and I was experiencing something at a beach. The next morning I woke up, and I had sand on my back.

So I am trying to tell you that there is no real depth or point in everything. Everything is flexable, and changeable, nothing is absolute. So again, it is like a multidimensional thing. All this is mind boggling. I have found that in metaphysics for every door you open, there will be ten more doors you have to open. No matter what door you open, you will open another door. And the deeper you go, the more you feel that you don't know anything.

The Predictions
P: We arrive at the point where we start. The secret of reality, the secret of sanity, the secret of making everything work is living in the moment, the center of the universe. When you are totally in the moment, then the universe revolves around you; the past, the present, the future, and all things. And that's how I can see the future, or how any good medium, or any good psychic who would stay with this concept, can predict the future, by being in the moment. I remember, almost 18 years ago I could tell about the fall of the Berlin Wall, the break up of the Soviet Union, that the stock market would be 10 thousand at the turn of the century. I did this prediction on the stage at the Learning Light Foundation in Anaheim, and there was a really big crowd. They all laughed at me, and they thought that I was totally off with the wall. And I am very sensitive person, and it bothered me. But what happened? The Berlin wall fell, the Soviet Union did break up, and the stock market went over ten thousand after the turn of the century. So I was correct on everything. The question is, how did I do it -- by living in the moment.

T: How do you go into the moment?
P: Okay, here is a good idea of the moment. When you are on a toboggan, the fast thing that you drive going down the ice, you have to stay in the moment and be very focused on what you are doing. If you divert for one second, that thing will fly off into the neverland. Right now, I am focused, and I live in-a-moment; in other words, it is not important what I will do in five minutes from now, or what I did five minutes earlier. What is important is now.

T: What do you think about the upcoming presidential elections? The other day some psychics came to my spiritual circle, and we asked Heaven and received three answers; one that the next president would be Bush, one that it would be Gore and the third answer was -- none of them, because something will happen. What's your take on this?
P: I feel very strongly about Gore, but I also feel that something is going to happen at the eleventh hour that may change the entire playing field. But I don't know exactly what it is. Someone may be assassinated, or someone may die during the process of elections. It may be not Gore, or Bush or maybe one of their vice presidents. But I do feel that one day we will wind up with a black president. And for some reason, Colin Powell always comes to mind, even if he said that he would never run to become president. But I feel that there is a very good chance that he will be president one day, or in a long enough run -- someone in that category or caliber. And that it will be very, very important. …

Peter continued to predict, letting his mind travel freely all over the world -- Mexico -- the release of an old bacteria in the process of rediscovery of ancient cities and reopening ancient tombs and pyramids; The Pacific Ocean -- the discovery of new gold deposits in its waters; Russia -- one more revolution before it starts toward the recovery; Latin-America -- new medical discoveries in field of microbiology; The United States -- the growth of the influence of corporations and the turn from taking care of the world to taking care of its own; France -- a lawful descendant of the French monarchy will surface and a true monarchy will be re-established here and there to give people back cohesiveness.

I am transcribing this tape when the presidential elections 2000 have already taken place. This time, all our contradicting psychic predictions regarding "decision 2000" came to pass -- Bush won, Gore is winning, and 'something' that none of us could word precisely -- did happen. As I am writing this story, they are still recounting ballots in Florida, and late night comedians led by David Letterman and Jay Leno have arrived at a fascinatingly entertaining question -- if we do so well without a president, do we need one at all?

In the garden, amidst the gods and goddesses, elves and good-luck frogs, the Toltec sacred ball players (winners, privileged to be released back into the spirit right after the game) and two-streamed waterfalls meant to reconcile all our differences, the clients were waiting for Peter.

There were two nice girls, the suburbia flowers with beautiful dreamy eyes and grand questions --where-is-my-husband-and-three-kids -- written all over their aura fields. Maybe my guide was joking, but I heard a spirit voice telling me, "Look, you think you are important, or Arnold Schwarzenegger thinks that he is important. But none of you are more important then these girls with the velvet and wet eyes of theirs, and chic obtained from Target, because it is not your book or Schwarzenegger's movie role that would save the world, but their dreams and prayers. As long as they dream of getting married and pray for their three kids who are on their own in this screwed up world, the human race will survive everything… You better get out of here, and let Peter do his job -- help them to dream."

So we left, leaving Peter to resume his evergreen mission to revive hopes and empower lady's dreams to become princesses and queen mothers in their suburbia gardens where only our fragile dreams oppose materialist boredom -- the true master of this scorched land.
